LARKSPUR, Marin County — October 25, 2026. Larkspur residents can help shape the future of their historic City Hall as a citizens’ advisory committee continues studying renovation options. According to the city’s official project page, the second City Hall Study Citizens’ Committee meeting is set for Wednesday, October 28, at 4 p.m. The project page links the meeting agenda and asks the community to submit ideas through a survey.

What is the problem at the 113-year-old building?

The building at 400 Magnolia Avenue has seismic deficiencies, an aging fire-sprinkler system and older infrastructure requiring expensive repair or replacement. With library operations relocating from their former space in City Hall, the municipality sees an opportunity to consider new civic uses and improve accessibility. Those needs are documented; no single renovation option is presented by the city as already approved for construction.

What could renovations cost?

A city-commissioned historic structure report outlines different levels of investment. One alternative, estimated at $6.3 million, replaces critical building systems and could prolong the facility’s usable life about 10 years. A larger renovation estimated at $21.8 million targets a roughly 30-year horizon. A comprehensive $23.7 million renovation seeks modern standards and 50 years or more of additional life while respecting the building’s historic importance. These are study estimates, not an authorized construction contract or funding award.

How can residents participate?

The City Hall Renovation Project page contains the survey link, historical study, past meetings and the October 28 committee agenda. The city also offers project email updates. Public Works Director Julian Skinner is listed for questions at 415-927-5020 and jskinner@cityoflarkspur.org. Confirm the meeting’s place and access instructions in the agenda before attending.

For official decisions, consult Larkspur’s agendas and minutes directory; a committee discussion or survey response does not by itself authorize the renovation. More independent civic coverage is at Larkspur News.
